What if the life you're trying so hard to create is waiting for you to stop forcing and start flowing?
It's a question that came alive for me during my recent conversation with Laurie E. Smith, author of The Flow Habit.
Like many people, I've spent seasons of my life believing that success, growth, and progress required constant effort.
Push harder.
Work harder.
Try harder.
Do more.
But what if there's another way?
Flow is often described as a state of complete presence.
A state where we become fully engaged in what we're doing.
Time feels different.
Ideas arrive more naturally.
We feel connected to ourselves and what we're creating.
According to Laurie, flow isn't reserved for artists, athletes, or spiritual teachers.
It's available to everyone.
In fact, flow is part of our natural design.
One of the themes that stood out most during our conversation was the relationship between intuition and flow.
When we're disconnected from ourselves, we often default to external expectations.
We seek validation.
We compare ourselves to others.
We overthink.
But intuition invites us inward.
It asks us to trust what we know before we can fully explain it.
And that takes courage.
Laurie openly shared her experience as a recovering perfectionist.
I think many of us can relate.
Perfectionism often disguises itself as high standards or ambition.
But underneath, it can create hesitation, fear, and self-doubt.
Flow requires something different.
Presence.
Participation.
Willingness.
Progress instead of perfection.
One phrase from our conversation that I absolutely loved was the idea of following your sparkle.
What naturally lights you up?
What brings curiosity, energy, and excitement?
Those moments are often clues.
Not random distractions.
But invitations.
Flow frequently begins where genuine interest lives.
Perhaps the most practical lesson from this conversation is that flow doesn't require giant leaps.
It begins with small actions.
One conversation.
One creative idea.
One intuitive nudge.
One next step.
We don't have to know the entire path.
We only need enough courage to take the next step.
At its heart, flow isn't about achieving more.
It's about reconnecting with who you already are.
The wisdom.
The creativity.
The intuition.
The gifts.
The true self beneath the noise.
And maybe that's why flow feels so good.
Because it brings us home to ourselves.
Where in your life are you being invited to stop forcing and start trusting?
Your answer may reveal the very path that flow is asking you to follow.
