We spend so much of our lives being told to trust logic over feeling. But what if your body has been trying to tell you the truth all along?
That's the heart of my conversation with Stephanie Banks on episode 248 of the podcast.
Stephanie is a professional intuitive channel — someone who connects with souls here in the physical world, souls who've passed on, spirit guides, and even nature itself. But her path into this work didn't start in a meditation retreat. It started with her mother.
A Connection That Didn't End
Stephanie's channeling gift emerged through her relationship with her mother, who lived with dementia. Rather than experiencing that disease as a loss of connection, Stephanie discovered something different: the soul only comes through if it's willing. Memory may fade, but the deeper thread between two people doesn't have to.
That experience became the foundation for her bestselling book, Joining Joanie — Staying Connected To Your Loved One Through Dementia And Beyond.
Your Body Will Never Lie
One of the most useful tools Stephanie shared is deceptively simple: your body always tells the truth. The challenge is that most of us have been trained to override it.
She offers a clear way to tell the difference between intuition and ego. Intuition tends to feel true, expansive, and like a deep knowing — a quiet certainty, not a loud demand. Ego, on the other hand, often shows up as urgency, fear, or the need to control an outcome. Learning to pause and ask "does this feel expansive, or does this feel tight?" is a practice anyone can start today.
Ask Specifically — Bored Spirit Guides Are a Real Thing
We also talked about how to ask for support — from angels, guides, or whatever you consider your version of "the Other Side." Stephanie's take: vague requests get vague results. Being specific about what you want isn't selfish or silly — it actually helps the support around you do its job. As she put it, nobody wants bored spirit guides.
We Are All Channels
Stephanie reminded us that channeling isn't a rare, mystical talent reserved for a select few. She channels daily — through writing. For you, it might show up as a sudden creative idea, a hunch you can't explain, or a piece of writing that seems to flow from somewhere beyond your usual thinking. Tuning into your higher self is a practice, and self-care is part of what makes that channel clearer.
Questions Worth Sitting With
Stephanie left us with a few questions I haven't stopped turning over:
What are your thoughts oriented to?
What is your operational vibrational frequency?
What are you a magnet to receive?
These aren't questions with quick answers — they're questions to live inside of for a while.
Falling Back in Love with Nature
Part of Stephanie's mission is helping people reconnect with the natural world — trees, animals, Gaia herself — as another form of channeled connection. In a world that keeps us plugged into screens, it's a beautiful invitation to look up and out.
